The holiday beauty release season is in full launch mode. It seems like every day a new palette or kit pops up on Instagram or in stores. Some releases are inspired, while others feel gimmicky. To me, one of the most noteworthy holiday collections comes from EM Cosmetics.
As you may or not be aware, EM Cosmetics is the brainchild of Michelle Phan. Though the brand was originally launched in 2013, it was rebranded and reinvented in 2017. This was mostly due to Michelle buying back the brand and having more control over what over product creation and launch. To date, EM Cosmetics offers three products, eyeliners, liquid lipsticks and glosses.
EM Cosmetics – True Gloss Collection
After hearing some buzz about the True Gloss line, I had to give the glosses a try. A few months ago, I picked up Moroccan Sunset (a dusty coral). From the very first moment I put this gel-based gloss on my lips, I was smitten. The color and shine of the gloss were otherworldly.
Not only is the formulation hydrating and conditioning, but it also contains peptides and vitamins, which help your lips look plump and smooth. Even better is the fact that this highly pigmented gloss is not sticky or uncomfortable to wear.
When I saw EM Cosmetics was releasing a limited-edition True Gloss Collection, $36, I knew it would be mine. The collection features five mini (0.04 fl. oz. per gloss) versions of the brand’s most popular glosses:
- Magic Hour – peachy nude with micro glitter
- Moroccan Sunset – a dusty coral
- Caramel Glaze – a sheer warm brown
- Lotus Blossom – a warm pink
- Secret Blush – a sheer pink nude
Note: All of the glosses are cruelty-free and gluten-free. They are also vegan, except for Caramel Glaze which contains carmine.
I absolutely adore everything about this collection, including the packaging. The sleek box with its geometric design stays true to the essence of the brand. It’s holiday, without being over the top or cutesy, which makes it perfect for anyone.
I also really appreciate the color selection of the True Glosses. You have a nice variety of nudes and pops of color, which are suitable for all skin tones. It’s a nice introduction to the brand and their glosses, as well as a great gift for yourself or someone else.
EM Essentials Set
The 2018 EM Cosmetics Holiday Collection also features the EM Essentials Set, $22. In it, you will find a full-size Felt Tip Illustrative Eyeliner and mini Infinite Lip Cloud in Rose Nude (a light, pink nude). Both the eyeliner and the lip cloud are cruelty-free, gluten-free, and vegan.
EM Cosmetics offers three varieties of liners, each inspired by the art world. In addition to being a beauty influencer, Michelle Phan is also an artist. She used this expertise to create eyeliners that feel more like tools illustrators would use. For instance, the Felt Tip liner is modeled after a comic art pen. This means you can create a bold line in one stroke.
The liner is also ultra-black, fast drying, waterproof and smudge proof for all day wear. I will say I did struggle a bit with this liner, but I tend to struggle with liner pens thanks to small eyes and crepey lids. I think I might have better luck with the brand’s Brush Liner, since it’s more flexible. Regardless, I love how intensely black the liner is and how it well it integrates with any eye look.
Now let’s talk about the other item in the set, the Infinite Lip Cloud in Rose Nude. Even though I like bold color, I’m really glad they choose this universally flattering nude shade. But the color selection isn’t the best part…it’s the formula.
I would describe it as magical. It’s like wearing nothing at all on your lips, which is an amazing feat for a liquid lipstick. The air-whipped, matte crème formula glides on your lips like a dream. It’s long lasting, non-drying, and won’t crack on your lips. I wore Rose Nude all day long, in the hot sun, consuming numerous beverages in an attempt to stay cool, and it looked incredible from start to finish. My lips felt so comfortable, I actually forgot I was wearing anything on them. Like I said, the Infinite Lip Cloud is magical.
Infinite Lip Cloud Bonuses
When I bought the EM Cosmetics Holiday Collection, the brand was offering a bonus. You could choose from two mini Infinite Lip Clouds in Faded Clementine and Crimson Red. Since I placed two separate orders I got both shades. Faded Clementine is a soft tangerine and Crimson Red is true blue-red. Both suit my love of bold colors and are ideal for the fall and winter season.
The supply on the bonuses was limited so I’m not sure if the option is still available. But if you do like either color, I highly recommend picking up the full-size version, $16 each.
Bottom line: I guess it is pretty obvious by now that I’m a big fan of the EM Cosmetics Holiday Collection. Both sets provide you with an opportunity to try out all of their products, while also showing support for an indie brand. You can find the EM Essentials Set and the True Gloss Collection on the EM Cosmetics website. Pick one up for yourself or gift them to the makeup enthusiast in your life.
